"Working in the voice over industry has been the biggest blessing in my life."
Toby offers voice services in 4 different accents: British, New Zealand, Australian, and American.
Based in New Zealand, 3 hours north of the nearest city, Toby works in the back of beyond!
Toby is currently building a new studio which is a purpose-built cedar cabin with the latest in sound insulation, set in a meadow with a river running around it. It offers an amazingly idyllic place to work. Being an online voice artist, he is able to work from anywhere in the world, so it might as well be from the most beautiful place!
Something a little bit different about Toby’s services is that he offers professional voice services in 4 different accents; British, New Zealand, Australian, and American. This allows him to work across multiple diverse markets, giving Toby much more reach than if he didn’t work online.
“I quickly realised that it was very limiting to wait for clients to come to you, so finding a place online where clients were already going to to find voices seemed like a complete revelation!” – Toby Ricketts, Professional Voice Talent
Toby’s clients include Audi, Microsoft, Google, Intel, and Bridgestone Golf.
Before Voices, Toby was wasn’t working online at all – he was only finding work through traditional sources. Running a studio in Christchurch, New Zealand that had a voice agency with it, Toby ended up casting himself for projects from time-to-time, as necessity required it. After 7 years of this, he realized that there was a reason why it was always his voice that was being used, and knew that there was more to this skill of his.
The turning point in Toby’s voice career was in 2010 when he decided to finally do voice-over full time. That same day, he quit his job at the studio and moved to the country to record in the quiet wilderness via his new Voices membership.
Upon joining Voices – from his idyllic cabin in the woods – Toby set up his profile and started to do more voice work than he otherwise would have just doing it on his own.
Since then, Toby has been busy. Recording between 20 and 40 auditions per week on Voices, Toby has booked 82 projects through the site, and over 400 spots in his career overall, so far.
Some of these projects include being the voice of the United Nations Convention on Strategic Environmental Assessment, Unicef for an eLearning course, the Australian National Outlook 2015 campaign, a National US TV spot for Nature Valley Granola Bars, and a video for Epson Australia.
Toby has also recently done a series of National US & International TV spots for Bridgestone Golf, is the voice of Audi in New Zealand and Jaguar’s Engage mobile app, and has voiced the promotional videos for Google Maps and Rosetta Stone, respectively.
“I also like the security and simplicity of using Voices as the payment system takes care of all invoicing and collections, so I’ve got more time to produce great voice overs for my clients!” – Toby Ricketts, Professional Voice Talent
As Toby puts it: “I’m now earning much more than I ever did in any ‘conventional’ job, with more flexibility than I ever thought possible!”
