Australia's marine environment is teeming with life, home to plants and animals found nowhere else here we can enjoy wildlife watching, boating, snorkelling and diving. It provides us with seafood and coastal communities with jobs and tourism looking after our marine environment is important. The Australian government manages waters beyond three nautical miles or 5.5 kilometres offshore. Australian marine parks cover 3.2 million square kilometres. That's an area the size of India. Ocean management is a balancing act. Some marine parks are being zoned to show where different activities are permitted green zones or protect important habitats like breeding and feeding areas. Here you'll be able to watch wildlife, snorkel, dive and do research, but not fish.
