Description

I have narrated documentaries for UFO series, Red Wings Heritage Hockey, and countless online as well as broadcast productions. This was a particularly good story about breaking barriers that I found inspirational.

Until the day of May six, for the world believed that a human being could not run a mile in under four minutes. Doctors thought that the heart would explode under the level of exertion necessary to break the record. Scientists said it was physically impossible to run a mile in under four minutes. Then one Windy Rainy Day in Oxford, England, Roger, Bannister ran the mile In 3:59.4 seconds. Was Bannister an anomaly a superhuman, able to defy physics and go beyond maximum human capacity? No, it wasn't banisters physical ability that set him apart from everyone else. It was his personal belief, his mindset. The most interesting part of this story is that just six weeks later another runner broke his record, and since then over 1400 runners have broken the four minute mile. Suddenly, people now knew that it was possible, and because they knew that it was possible, they were able to do it too. Sometimes all it takes is one person who doesn't see the same barriers as everyone else to show them the barrier never actually existed.
