Bruce Edwards Podcast sample. September 18th 1932. In The Dark of night, a pretty young actress named Peg Entwistle claws her way up the rugged slope of the Hollywood hills overlooking Beachwood Drive. Above her, she can see the towering white letters that have symbolized her hopes and dreams for the past two years. But like the dream that planted those letters in the first place, hers have failed to come true. She reaches the plateau where the name Hollywood Land has stood as a giant billboard for a real estate development that collapsed with the stock market three years earlier. She takes off her jacket, folds it neatly and places it with her purse at the base of a maintenance ladder that leads up the letter H 50 feet high. She climbs to the top and jumps into the darkness. A suicide note found in her purse reads, I'm sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. The next day, a letter to Paige arrives from the Beverly Hills Playhouse, offering her a lead role in a play about a woman driven to suicide. Some say her ghost still haunts the Hollywood Hills, where the scent of her favorite perfume still lingers. My name is Bruce Edwards, and you're listening to another podcast edition of Hollywood Tragic tale of Peg Entwistle was Headline News in 1932 and today little has changed. On any given day at any given hour, someone, somewhere is telling a story about Hollywood. A report on the latest movie Blockbuster. A profile of the newest and brightest star, the media buzz behind the industry's most recent triumph or tragedy.
