Chapter six. How long have you been standing there? Nila paced around her quarters. Once they arrived at Netas four, she would have been woken up and introduced to her three bunkmates. There were two bunk beds on either side of the small space. Now, the space was quiet. No sound anywhere, dim lights. It was way too quiet. Nila couldn't think straight. I'm going to be awake for at least a year. She hadn't focused when Dante gave her the rundown of how long she'd be awake. She just knew I will be alone on a ship with only an Android for company. What kind of company would an Android be on previous missions? She remembered Android standing awaiting instructions. Generally, they seemed like mobile computers. Would she go bananas with just Dante as a companion? There were reasons for using stasis pods besides the logistical issues in packing enough food to last a crew. Two years, there were also mental problems being stuck on a ship for such an extended period with no new scientific data and no guarantee there'd be enough work for years going on a two year trek without a stasis pod was likened to a prison sentence torture and it was only worse if you didn't like your crew or if they didn't provide sufficient company and mental stimulation. Her long hair was still wet from the stasis pod malfunction. She had pulled some clean clothes from her bags recently retrieved from the lockers. All her items were put on the top bunk across from the door while her sleeping gear was on the bottom. I'm hungry. She thought to herself as she absentmindedly walked over to the door of her quarters. It whooshed open and hello, I thought you could use some clean clothes. Dante said, Nila jumped, Dante. How long have you been standing there? I'm sorry, did I frighten you? He asked, I was surprised that's all Nyla said, apologies. I have clean clothes and other things you might need such as personal care items. Dante presented the items to her. It seemed Dante knew her exact sizes and what products she would need. As she quickly glanced over the facial cleansers and feminine hygiene products. Surely though Dante realized she didn't need these things right away. She had clean clothes in her bag. They were a little musty smelling after months in the storage locker though. Thank you. Nyla said, putting a smile on her face and taking the items from Dante as she turned to put the items down, Dante peered in behind her and watched the way Nila put the items on the top bunk. It was curious how she took more beds than needed. But Dante said nothing figuring it was a human thing. You want to grab dinner? Nila asked. Absolutely. What would you like? Dante asked? I will bring it back here. No, no, no. Nila said, walking out the door of her quarters. Not like that. I mean, do you want to go to the mess hall with me and eat with me? I do not eat. Dante said, Nyla meandered in the direction of the mess hall and Dante followed her lead in pace. I know Nila said, but humans have this thing called company. It's not, it's not nice to be alone all the time. You do not wish to be alone. Dante asked no doubt because of your near death experience earlier. I will stay with you and ensure no harm comes your way. I mean, Nila trailed off as she realized this might be the closest to human understanding she could get from Dante. He walked with her eyes forward and Nila wondered what kind of dinner companion he would be.
