Introduction
Hi there and welcome to Vox Talk, your weekly review from the world of voice over. I’m your host, Stephanie Ciccarelli from Voices. You may have seen a flurry of activity on the Voices social channels over the last couple weeks announcing winners of the Voicey Awards. In today’s episode, we’ll be talking about the awards and also hear from David Kaplan, winner of the Best Male Voice Actor award, who joins me on the line from his studio in New York.

If you’ve not heard of the Voiceys before, these awards are given out by Voices.com each year to recognize voice actors for their hard work, talent, and success!
The Voicey Awards are unique compared to typical performance awards in that winners are decided based on internal data from Voices showing us rising stars in their respective voice over specialties.
Voice actors and coaches often advise honing your skills for the niches you’re best suited for. If there was ever a product of successfully implementing that advice, it is winning a Voicey Award.
As you, voice over isn’t just about having a great voice. We say this all the time. To be successful in voice over requires talent to be not just a voice artist but a recording engineer with a business mindset. In addition to remarkable talent, these technical and entrepreneurial traits are also exemplified by Voicey Award recipients.
So, you could say success in voice over boils down to the melding of artistic, technical, and business talent to rise to the top of your game.
And with that said, let’s jump into our interview.
