What is a TikTok Voice Effect?

A TikTok voice effect is an alternate way from speaking with our own voices in a TikTok to choosing one of the many options to speak for us. These voice effects can be created directly in the TikTok app, added on top of our own voice, replacing speech in a video from our camera roll, and in text-to-speech. We will learn how to add voice effects for all of these scenarios below.

Adding a Voice Effect to Speech

Here’s a step-by-step guide to adding a voice effect to speech in TikTok.

Step 1: Make a Tikok

To make a TikTok, click the middle icon with a plus sign found at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Record the Video

Press the desired time for the video and press the red circle to record. All that’s left for this step is to start speaking! As the video is recording, a red bar will go around the recording button to show how much time we have left.

Step 3: Stop Recording

Tap the red button again to stop recording.

Step 4: Save the Recording

Once our video is complete, tap the red checkmark in the bottom right corner. The screen will change to show the recorded video. If any more videos want to be filmed, press the back button in the top left corner.

Step 5: Locate Audio Editing

A list of icons will appear in a straight line on the right-hand side. Right below the icons is a little down arrow that once clicked reveals more icons. Press the image of a microphone with a sparkle that is labeled “Voice” or “Audio Editing.”

Step 6: Choose a Voice Effect

A bunch of colorful characters with names underneath them will appear. Have fun experimenting with the different voice effects. The effect will be added to your voice.

Step 7: Post the Video

The final video will show. At the bottom of the screen is a red button called “Next.” By pressing this, a new screen will show where you can add a caption, hashtags or a location. At the bottom is another red button and once clicked, the video will be posted!

Using a Voice Effect on an Existing Video

To add a voice effect to a video from your camera roll, here are the steps.

Tap the plus sign at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Choose a Video

Press the upload button in the bottom right corner and find a video from the camera roll.

Step 3: Save the Video

Step 4: Select Audio Editing

Press the arrow at the bottom of the icons for more options. A microphone with a sparkle labeled “Voice” or “Audio Editing” will appear. Click this button.

Step 5: Choose a Voice Effect

Colorful characters can be selected and automatically added to the speech in the video. Experiment with different sounds and voice effects to find the best one.

Step 6: Adding a Voice Over

A voice over can also be added by pressing the gray “Record” button at the bottom of the screen after selecting a video.

Step 7: Record the Voice Over

Press “Done.”

Step 9: Adjust Volume

And just like that, we have gone through all the ways a voice effect can be added to a TikTok on both Apple and Android devices! To learn more about TikTok editing, visit the TikTok support website.

Trickster Voice Effect

Voice effects are used for a variety of TikToks, but the most popular effect is called “Trickster.” This voice effect engages the audience by increasing the pitch of a voice and adding unique inflections. Commonly, this TikTok effect is used with tutorials, storytimes, vlogs and even on people’s pets to vocalize their internal thoughts. The Trickster voice effect has also shown up in some brand awareness videos for small businesses. Voice effects can significantly enhance TikTok videos by making them more engaging and entertaining.

Siri Voice Effect

Another popular voice effect is the Siri voice effect. This voice is typically used for text-to-speech and not as a replacement for your own voice. An earlier trend was for users to see which words Siri mispronounced, such as “Fiancé” and “Pokémon,” as well as gibberish like “hhhhhhh.” Many people also found it funny how the voice was always upbeat and happy no matter what the text was about.

Tips For an Engaging TikTok

1. Use Stickers and Text

Stickers and text help highlight the topic of the video to peak a user’s attention instantly. It is also a good tool to use at the start of each video for brand recognition. Using these in addition to video effects can enhance the visual appeal of your TikTok videos, making them more engaging.

2. Encourage Discussion

Asking for an opinion or allowing discussion in the comments leads to more engagement. A discussion can be continued by stitching videos or making a TikTok replying to a user’s comment. Discussion creates a closer relationship between the users and the creator.

3. Study Your Niche

What better way to learn about your niche than from the most successful TikTok accounts? Do a little research on the hashtags creators in your niche include, topics they talk about and the length of their videos. We can find a lot of information about our target demographic and what engages them the most this way.

4. Add Hashtags and Captions

TikTok is not only used as an entertainment app but also as a search engine. People can type in keywords for recipes, tutorials and very niche topics for more insight. Using hashtags and captions using keywords about the TikTok you made will help users find it more easily. This is even more important now that a new search feature above the comments shows a keyword in blue that was mentioned in the video. By clicking it, TikTok will directly show more videos using this keyword.

Summary

TikTok voice effects are a fun way to change up and add more interest to our videos. Whether it’s making a voice over or adding it to our own voice, an easy and overlapping step is to first make a TikTok, click the microphone icon and experiment with all of the unique effects. While being a great app for entertainment, TikTok has limited voice effects that are prone to mispronunciation.
